Welcome to "Perpetuate the Memory".

Rarely does one find a person who crosses race, sex, religious, social, and educational lines.  Catherine Ferguson is one of these rare people.  Her story is important both historically and sociologically.  As we stand in a time where our heroes seem less heroic, perhaps we should realize that the real heroes often turn out to be of the “unsung” variety.  Hopefully this site will help“Perpetuate the Memory” of this heroine - and hopefully inspire a new generation of heroes as well.

Catherine Ferguson was known to her friends as Katy…and her story, though known to them, could easily be lost.  Katy’s story is too important to be allowed to fall through the cracks as it touches many important topics.  The main topics illuminated by her life are:  Black History; Woman’s History; Public Education History; Public Programs’ History; Sunday School History; and, Social Justice History.  The primary purpose for this site is to share her story and educate the next generation of history makers.
